A Bangladeshi student at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar, Assam, was deported to her home country on Monday after she allegedly liked an anti-India post on social media. The action was taken following widespread criticism and multiple complaints, police sources informed NDTV.
Student deported from NIT Silchar

The student, who joined NIT Silchar in 2021, came under fire for engaging with a Facebook post by a former Bangladeshi student that was deemed anti-India. The matter was brought to light by a former student of Assam University Silchar, who shared screenshots of the controversial social media activity last week. This led to several complaints being lodged against the NIT student in Silchar and other parts of Assam.
In response to the outcry, the authorities decided to send the student back to Bangladesh. She was escorted to the India-Bangladesh international border in Karimganj on Monday morning. According to official sources, the student crossed the border under strict security arrangements at around 11 a.m.
NIT Silchar hosts approximately 70 students from Bangladesh across various disciplines. The incident has sparked discussions about the sensitivity of social media activities among international students and the implications for diplomatic relations between neighboring countries.
While the student has been deported, the case has highlighted the need for caution in the digital age, where actions on social media can have significant real-world consequences.
