A recently installation of a commercial billboard in Sivasagar has sparked huge public outcry. The installed billboard is allegedly obstructing the historic view of the revered Sri Sri Shiva Dol in the historic town of Sivasagar. The locals have expressed concerns over the placement of the advertisement. They billboard installation has raised questions about the adherence to heritage preservation laws, which are meant to protect the integrity of such culturally significant landmarks.
Sri Sri Shiva Dol View Blocked, locals argue violation of Heritage Preservation Laws
In view of the installation of the billboard and it blocking the view of the historic Sri Sri Shiva Dol, local journalist and social activist, Pranjal Rajguru has taken action by submitting a complaint to the Sivasagar District Commissioner via social media on Tuesday, urging swift action. As per a report by Sentinel, Rajguru stated, “According to the Central Government’s Archaeological Law, no commercial structures, advertisements, or billboards are permitted within a 300-meter radius of protected historical sites. This law has been enforced previously in Sivasagar, with proposals for multi-story buildings near the Sri Sri Shiva Dol being rejected by administration authorities.”
In his complaint letter, Rajguru also pointed out that the Sivasagar Municipal Board (SMB) had previously imposed with similar preservation guidelines. However, it seems the the commercial billboard have been granted the permit for installation .
Rajguru calls for Action
Journalist Rajguru also requested the District Commissioner to take immediate action and send instructions to the Chairperson of SMB to remove all unauthorized advertising structures from the vicinity of the Sri Sri Shiva Dol and other historic sites within Sivasagar town.

Keeping in mind, the historical and cultural heritage of the region, Rajguru has further stressed on the importance of maintaining the charm and beauty of Sivasagar for tourists as well as the locals. He emphasized that preserving the town’s heritage is crucial for offering an authentic experience to visitors who come to admire the region’s cultural significance.
