Voting for the crucial bye-polls in six assembly seats , including five in Assam Assam and the Gambegre constituency in Meghalaya began this morning at 7 am. The polling will conclude at 5 PM.
Bye-Polls Witness Active Voter Participation
The electoral process at both the polling stations is witnessing active participation. Long queues of eagers voters have been observed outside the polling stations, hinting a strong participation in the elections.
Gambegre Constituency Bye-Polls
The bye-poll in Meghalaya’s Gambegre assembly constituency is a result of its former MLA Saleng A. Sangma resigned from his position after getting elected to the Lok Sabha.

Key candidates in the Constituency
The contest in Gambegre features several prominent candidates including Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma‘s wife Mehtab Chandee Sangma of the National People’s Party (NPP); Jingjang M. Marak from Congress; Sadhiarani M. Sangma of the TMC; Bernard N. Marak of the BJP; and independents Sengkrabirth Marak and Jerry A. Sangma are all in the fray for the Gambegre assembly seat. The number of eligible voters in this constituency stands at 32,254. 31 out of the 51 polling stations in the West Garo Hills have been classified as “critical,” ensuring the safety of the election process.
