GovernmentOperation Sindoor Live Updates: India won't give face-saving exit to Pak army chief Asim Munir

Operation Sindoor has escalated tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. India’s military response, targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure, has led to significant developments in the region.

Operation Sindoor: Strategic Objectives and Execution

Launched on May 7, 2025, Operation Sindoor was India’s response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 Hindu tourists. The operation targeted nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including locations in Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad, identified as hubs for terrorist activities by groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Indian forces utilized precision airstrikes, employing Rafale, Su-30MKI, and MiG-29 aircraft equipped with SCALP-EG cruise missiles and GBU-24 guided bombs. The strikes aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure while minimizing civilian casualties.

Pakistan’s Response and Escalation

In retaliation, Pakistan claimed to have downed five Indian aircraft and initiated artillery exchanges along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in additional casualties. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the strikes as acts of war and vowed consequences.

The situation has led to heightened military readiness on both sides, with India deploying warships in the northern Arabian Sea and Pakistan placing its military on high alert.

Civilian Impact and International Reactions

The conflict has resulted in civilian casualties on both sides. Pakistan reported 31 civilian deaths and 57 injuries, including children, due to the Indian airstrikes.

International leaders, including those from the US, UK, China, and Turkey, have called for restraint and a diplomatic resolution to prevent further escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors.

Strategic Analysis: Asim Munir’s Position

Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, faces a critical decision in the wake of Operation Sindoor. Known for his hardline stance, Munir’s choices will significantly influence the region’s stability. India has indicated it will not provide a face-saving exit for Munir, emphasizing accountability for the actions leading to the current crisis.

Economic and Civilian Disruptions

The conflict has disrupted civilian life and economic activities. In India, 24 airports have been shut down as a precautionary measure. Airlines are rerouting flights to avoid the conflict zone, and businesses are experiencing interruptions due to the heightened tensions.
