With winter right around the corner, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Morigaon District of Assam has become a popular stop for migratory birds. Known for its thriving population of one-horned rhinoceroses, the sanctuary is now witnessing a a large number of migratory birds from Europe, America, and the Tibetan region.
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary Welcomes the Arrival of Birds

Forest officials said the migratory birds started arriving in late October, and their numbers are growing. Pranjal Baruah, the Forest Ranger at Pobitora, expects the peak migration period to be in December.
“Most of the birds come from Europe and the Tibetan region. We’ve taken all the necessary steps to protect them,” Baruah said.
Tourism Increase from Birdwatching

The arrival of migratory birds has also increased tourism at Pobitora. From October 14 to November 15, around 4,000 tourists visited the sanctuary, bringing in Rs 5 lakh in revenue. With jeep and elephant safaris allowing close views of both the birds and wildlife, officials expect even more tourists during the peak migration time.

As winter sets in and the birds arrive, Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary remains a key spot for migratory birds and a growing eco-tourism destination.
